The classes practiced at Equanimity Hatha Yoga are designed to provide a system of cross training, synergistically working together to build strength, flexibility, balance and peace of mind. The benefits of cross training include reduced risk of injury, enhanced weight loss, improved total fitness and enhanced exercise adherence.
We suggest that you choose a practice schedule that integrates multiple classes, 3 or more times per week.
GHOSH YOGA CLASS TYPES:
Level ONE 60 & 90– 60 and 90 minutes, 95-100 degrees. BEGINNERS LEVEL CLASS. Level ONE is a stationary class consisting of 40 asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing) exercises that are accessible to everyone at any age, fitness or experience level. Each posture/breathing exercise is practiced once for 30 seconds up to 4 minutes in a heated room. This is the foundation class for all beginner and returning practitioners, offering a whole body and mind approach to practice.
Core Strength 60 & 90 – 60 and 90 minutes, 95-100 degrees. ALL LEVELS CLASS. This class is designed to target both the superficial and deep core muscles of the abdomen. By training the inner core (the diaphragm, the pelvic floor, the lumbar multifidus-deep back and the transverse abdominous-deep abdomen) you will be able to stabilize your trunk and pelvis, creating greater support of the low back, preventing injury and allowing existing injuries to heal. The asanas will focus on core strength and back-bending. This class is a supplemental cross training class for EVERY LEVEL.
Ghosh Flow 60 & 90 - 60 and 90 minutes, 95-100 degrees. ALL LEVELS CLASS. Ghosh Flow is a fast pace class offering asanas and full body mudras, practiced in fluid, repetitive series. Instead of holding postures statically, using isometric contractions of the muscles, we flow through the postures, coordinating the breath with eccentric and concentric contraction of muscles. This fluid movement is very therapeutic for tendons, ligaments and joints. This is a whole body and mind approach for EVERY LEVEL and should be practiced in conjunction with any of the stationary classes.
Level 2 60 & 90 – 60 and 90 minutes, 95 to 100 degrees. INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CLASS. This class is a challenging practice which includes both beginner and intermediate level asanas. If you have been practicing Bikram Yoga or other types of HOT yoga and are looking to advance your practice, this is the class for you. This is a foundation class for practitioners with a minimum of 3 months experience, offering a whole body and mind approach to practice. Level 2 is a combination of Tony Sanchez’s Master Core System and the Ghosh inversion series.
Level 3 – 90 minutes, 95-100 degrees. ADVANCED LEVEL CLASS. A selection of the full 91 asanas, pranayama, mudras and bandhas of Ghosh Yoga. This class is for teachers and practitioners with a minimum of 6 months experience.
Yin Yoga – 90 minutes, 80-90 degrees. ALL LEVELS. The Yin practice focuses on deep stretching of the connective tissue and fascia, releasing muscle tension and creating greater flexibility. Yin postures are passive with the goal of relaxing into the postures with time. Postures are held between 3 and 5 minutes each. As you advance in your yoga practice (or in any other physical undertaking) it is important to balance the building of muscle with the therapeutic release this practice offers. This class is a supplemental cross training class for EVERY LEVEL.
Body Weight Training - 90 minutes, 90 - 95 degrees. Body weight training is a class focusing on the incorporation of calisthenics and yoga asana (postures). This training approach comes from the teaching methods at the Ghosh College of India in Calcutta. This is the home of Ghosh yoga and where Bishnu Ghosh (our Guru) developed our yoga practice. This school was a physical education school and ran programs in calisthenics, weight training and yoga. Some of the great body builders of the world were trained at the Ghosh College! Our 90-minute class will focus on specific strengthening goals, training to build muscle and strength with the goal of achieving for complex yoga asanas (postures).
Gentle Yoga - 60 minutes, 80-85 degrees. This class is designed to accommodate those with more complex injuries and physical limitations. This class will incorporate Yoga asanas (postures) and breathing exercises that are practiced with props such as chairs, balance polls, blocks, blankets and bolsters. We will work with you at your pace and help you to find greater range of motion, vibrant health and love for your body.
Yoga Nidra Meditation - 60 minutes, unheated. This guided meditation has the power to transform, heal and rejuvenate you at your core levels. Through the use of body sensing, breath awareness, guided imagery and other practices, you are systematically guided on a journey through your whole being called the koshas. Yoga Nidra switches you out of flight or fight and into the relaxation response — your body’s natural healing state — where revitalization and regeneration naturally occur.
